Gossip Girl reboot star offers hints about his character – Digital Spy

The Gossip Girl reboot (that’s not actually a reboot) may have been postponed, but one of the stars of the new series has shared a few teases about his character to help fans with the extra wait.
Eli Brown has previously starred in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and can currently be seen in Netflix’s The F**k-It List, but his next job will see him head to New York’s Upper East Side as Gossip Girl seeks to expose the secrets of a new bunch of wealthy young adults living in Manhattan.
And while there aren’t many details to go on at the moment – and the cast have been sworn to secrecy anyway – Eli has at least offered up some intriguing hints about the character he plays in the HBO Max series.

“We’ve been asked to keep even the very little information that we have pretty secretive, but I can tell you that my character’s a really good guy,” Eli told ET Online.
“He comes from a very wealthy family and he’s a humanitarian.”
The new 10-episode Gossip Girl series will deliver all the gossip and drama we remember from the original series, while also addressing “just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years”.
Once again, the series will be filmed in New York but filming on the show was pushed back earlier this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Even so, Eli continued to reveal that he was “excited” to film the series in New York when they’re given the green light once again, even while he admits it “will be a very different New York” thanks to social distancing guidelines and safety precautions.
“It’s going to be a very different experience than I thought, but that’ll still be very cool,” he added. “We’re recreating something that was so adored by so many people. It’s going to be fun.”
The CW
Gossip Girl originally aired for six seasons between 2007 and 2012, and starred the likes of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen.
While it’s not been confirmed whether any of the original cast members will return – for a cameo or otherwise – in the new series, Gossip Girl fans will at least hear a familiar voice as Frozen and The Good Place star Kristen Bell will reprise her role as the voice of the gossip blogger.
“Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” show creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage confirmed in a joint statement with new series showrunner Joshua Safran.
The Gossip Girl spin-off will air on HBO Max in 2021 – the streaming service launches in the US on May 27. In the meantime, you can catch up on seasons 1-6 of the original series on Netflix now.
