Willow, the largest building in the RiverHeath complex in Appleton on the Fox River, opens today, Monday.

That’s right on schedule despite challenges posed by coronavirus-related safety considerations over the last few months of construction.

“When the virus hit, (builder) C.D. Smith implemented very strict site controls,” said Mark Geall, principal at Tanesay Development, RiverHeath’s owner. “They were wearing masks and gloves and working by themselves. They were able to work straight through.”

Willow is a $25 million, six-story, mixed-use building that has 110 residential apartments (from $975 studios to around $3,000 for three-bedrooms and river view) on its upper floors and commercial/retail space on its lower floors.

Model apartments were not available to view until now.

“We had hoped to have model units open in March,” said Geall. “We’re starting showings on June 1.”

He said a few apartment residents reserved particular units months ago, including some corner units, and they started moving in this past weekend.

Retail and commercial tenants have not yet finished preparing their individual spaces.

“Commercial tenants will be moving in over the course of June,” he said. “The sidewalk retail is fully leased. We have one office space remaining and two riverfront retail spaces.”

Signed commercial tenants include Poppy Avenue Boutique and Alyssa & Anna Jewelers.

The Menlo Park co-working office space in RiverHeath’s Prairie building will move over to Willow and take a larger space with more individual offices for lease.
