Six things to know today:
REI delay
REI Co-op’s new store at the northeast corner of W. Wisconsin Avenue and Interstate 41 looks ready from the outside.
But it didn’t open this month, as originally planned, and won’t for perhaps three months based on its revised outlook during the coronavirus outbreak.
REI told Greene Development Appleton, the property owner, that it now aims to open ahead of the Labor Day weekend assuming circumstances do not change once again.
The sporting goods and outdoor apparel store is in the development that also includes WG&R Furniture and At Home.
Stein’s deal off
Stein’s Garden & Home put all of its expansion projects on hold, including the proposed purchase of Liberty Hall’s property on Eisenhower Drive in Kimberly. Stein’s said in January that it wanted to purchase the property and convert it into its second Fox Cities location. That is now not happening.
“Liberty Hall will continue on in this location. We will be reopening on June 1,” said hall owner Mike Van Asten.

Crazy Sweet saved
In an 11th hour move, new buyers came forward to purchase the Crazy Sweet, a candy and ice cream shop at 201 W. College Ave. in downtown Appleton. The store is currently closed in the transition between owners. The shop will reopen later in June with the same name and candy/ice cream theme. New owners are Tim and Karissa Fendt, also owners of Boardlandia, and Crystal and Brian Schalliol, two Neenah teachers. “It’s something we all love and secretly wanted,” said Karissa Fendt. “After looking at the numbers, we thought this was something we could do.”
Jersey Mike’s coming
Jersey Mike’s Subs is slated to go into 133 N. Mall Drive in Grand Chute. The spot, previously World of Beer, is part of a multi-tenant building that also houses Five Guys. Renovation work has not yet started on its space.
Tropical Sno open
Tropical Sno Fox Cities opened on Appleton’s east side at 2125 S. Schaefer St. in Appleton, off Calumet Street, in a freestanding building that was previously Doughlicious. The dessert shop sells 42 flavors of shaved ice, plus Cedar Crest ice cream. Before relocating to Appleton, the business was called Sno Zone and was open for six years in Freedom and had a concession trailer in the Appleton Downtown Farm Market. Owners Lisa and Dean Kroening operate the shop from spring through late fall. Info: Open noon to 9 p.m. everyday. See Facebook for more details.
Starbucks open
Starbucks opened the drive-thru at its new Darboy location, on County KK in front of Kohl’s, earlier this month. Starbucks on Calumet Street, just across State 441, meanwhile, is expected to reopen today.
