Like so many of our favorite events Fashion with a Passion was rescheduled in the wake of Covid-19. The good news is that the night is back on our calendar for Thursday, October 1, and a fabulous night of fashion, food and fun is a sure bet again this year. The less positive news is that domestic violence is not so easily moved, and Safe Harbor, the recipient of proceeds from Fashion with a Passion, needs us more than ever.
The boutiques represented in the following pages are all participating in the night, and we can all help add to the $900,00 raised to date by FWAP. By supporting the event, our community has ensured that Safe Harbor can continue to provide crisis support services that victims so desperately need. Lives have been changed and families have begun to heal and rebuild.
Help with this issue is more important than ever. Rates of domestic violence incidents have historically spiked following natural disasters, so Safe Harbor says they are expecting a spike during COVID-19. The virus will not cause domestic abuse in otherwise healthy families – just like substance abuse or mental illness do not cause domestic abuse. However, COVID-19 will almost certainly and quickly make at-risk families tip into abuse and will cause abusive relationships to get worse. Worse can be deadly.
In the midst of this pandemic, Safe Harbor is still here. The lives of victims depend on immediate response and on-going shelter, counseling and advocacy from experts in domestic violence, especially during a time of increased stress, isolation and community crisis. To learn more about how they have adapted services in response to COVID-19 and how you can help, please visit safeharborsc.org. Enjoy this preview of what’s to come on October 1, and be sure to join us in supporting our local agencies. Tickets available at fashionwithapassionsc.org.
