Some Fox Cities stores now require both customers and employees wear face masks.
If customers showed up without masks last week, Costco handed out free disposable masks for a limited time and Menards had individual masks for sale at its service desk.
Many people came wearing their own masks or bandanas.
Masks can be purchased online at sites like Amazon and Etsy.
Face mask sales, in fact, were credited for doubling Etsy’s sales in April, according to its first quarter report.
A spot check at some Fox Cities stores this past week showed that finding masks for sale was hit or miss.
Target in Grand Chute’s Fox River Mall had a display of masks (a pack of 10 for $15) near its pharmacy on Wednesday. Walgreens on College Avenue, at Richmond Street, had some for sale by its registers on Friday. CVS in Menasha was sold out.
Fleet Feet Sports Fox Valley in Grand Chute is taking preorders for masks and neck gaiters it expects to receive in bulk from a supplier on May 22, said owner Leah Schapiro. The masks have multiple layers of semi-technical fabric and sell for $12. When they arrive, they’ll be available for curbside pick-up.
Mask-wearing may be necessary for the foreseeable future, she said. “We anticipate this being a normal part of summer and fall.”
