Unfortunately, during the pandemic that changes a lot of things and you can’t get to see movies in the theater so this year, things will be a bit different. To be qualified for an Oscar, it has to be shown in the movies.

They will be allowing movies which were made for streaming such as Amazon or Netlflix to be up for Best Picture in the upcoming Academy Awards next February.

The Academy cited the forced closure of theaters due to the Covid-19 pandemic, noting that only movies with a “previously planned theatrical release” would be eligible. Previously, films needed to have at least a week-long theatrical run in order to qualify for consideration”, according to CNN.
