Meghan Markle’s ‘demanding’ celebrity background created culture clash with Palace – Express.co.uk

Meghan’s self-confidence, showbiz connections and fast-paced lifestyle jarred with some in the Palace, a royal commentator said. Camilla Tominey highlighted how the warm welcome within the Royal Family received by Meghan ahead of her wedding quickly turned sour as she was settling in her new role.
The expert told The New Yorker: “She was this extremely glamorous woman who had a lot to say for herself, and had an interesting past as a campaigner for women’s rights.
“She was a woman who meant business, and it looked like she would be an instant asset to the Royal Family.”
These qualities, however, may have provoked a clash between the Duchess of Sussex’ former world and Prince Harry’s royal roots.
Ms Tominey continued: “I’ve put it down to a clash of cultures, in the sense that she had come from the celebrity world, which is very fast-paced and quite demanding.
The expert added there are a series of unwritten rules within the palace which Meghan may have inadvertently breached.
The misunderstandings over the unwritten traditions governing the palace may have caused problems.
Just a few months after Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Sussexes lost two close aides.
DON’T MISS
The Duchess of Sussex’ personal assistant, Melissa Touabti, left only six months after starting.
Samantha Cohen, who served the Royal Family for 17 years and helped Meghan transitioning from the showbiz to the royal world, later announced she would leave her post in spring.
These resignations fuelled claims by insiders regarding Meghan being demanding.
The Duchess of Sussex is said to have asked to spray air fresheners inside St George’s Chapel ahead of her wedding to get rid of the church’s odour.
It has also been claimed Meghan was sending emails to her staff as early as 5am.
Following reports of these behaviours, the Daily Express reported claims Meghan had been branded “Duchess Difficult” by some members of the royal staff.
Ms Tominey said: “It’s a bit like ‘Downton Abbey’ — there’s a hierarchy of staff who have been at Buckingham Palace for years and years, to serve Queen and country.
“And, therefore, for Harry and Meghan to be making demands, there was a bit of below-stairs chatter, particularly with the Duchess, that was ‘Well, hang on a minute, who do you think you are?’”
Despite these rumoured tensions, Meghan and Harry appeared to have built a good relationship with their staff at Frogmore Cottage, which had been their official residence between last spring and November 2019.
After completing their final engagements as senior royals in mid-March, Meghan and Harry hosted a farewell lunch for their staff at The Goring Hotel in London’s Belgravia.
There, the Duchess of Sussex is said to have “shed a tear”.
Another insider spoke of the party as an emotional moment.
They told Page Six: “Meghan and Harry really wanted to show their appreciation, they know how hard everyone has worked.”
