Gossip Girl: 10 Times We Really Questioned Parenting Decisions – Screen Rant
[ad_1]
The show Gossip Girl was full of exciting drama and fun thrills, and many of that entertainment came in the form of lying, cheating, stealing and, well, gossiping. And while it made for a good TV show, it made for some not-so-great people who made some not-so-great decisions.

In fact, some of the worst decisions on this series were made by the parents, the ones who were supposed to be in charge. From treating their children poorly and ruining people’s lives to keeping secrets all the time, listed out below are 10 times the parenting decisions on this teen drama were really questioned.
10 Everything Bart Bass Did & Said
Without a doubt, one of the worst characters within this story was Bart Bass; he was a rich and powerful man who wanted his way in every situation or else. He had one son, Chuck, whom he blamed for his wife’s death.
Due to this thought and his overall lifestyle, he did not have much to do with Chuck, and when they did interact, he was just griping about how disappointing Chuck was.
9 The Sad Way (Early) Eleanor Treated Her One & Only Child
Another well-off and powerful parent with one child was Eleanor Waldorf. She, too, had high hopes for her daughter, yet it took her a while to realize and admit just how great Blair was.
Yes, early on, there were many times when Eleanor brushed Blair off or even insulted her and many times when this main character was left feeling upset after a conversation with her mother.
8 Lily Keeping Scott A Secret From Rufus
Back in the day, Lily and Rufus were in love, and they ended up having a child together. Yet Lily did not share this information with anyone, and she gave their son away. Years later, these two reconnected, and this secret was revealed.
While she may have had her reasons for doing what she did, it is never cool to keep a baby hidden away from one of its parents!
7 Bart Not Even Telling His Son He Was Alive
After Bart Bass passed away, it was revealed that he was actually alive! However, he did not even let his son know this; Blair just happened to stumble upon this man at a party.

Bart apparently had to go into hiding, and it was already known that he did not have a happy and loving relationship with his son. Still, for someone to think that they are all alone in the world… also not cool.
6 Rufus Hooking Up With Ivy
Two big things happened in Lily’s life around the same time: Her relationship with Rufus ended (again), and Ivy pretended to be a relative then took away the van der Woodsen’s home, possessions, money and so on.
To make it all even worse, Rufus hooked up with Ivy, took her side and had her move into his place! It was disturbing and wrong to so many people for so many reasons.
5 All Of William van der Woodsen’s Lies
Serena’s father, William van der Woodsen, was not around a lot, but when he was, there was trouble. It turned out that he had a child, Lola, with Lily’s sister, Carol. It turned out that he was in a relationship with Ivy in order to bring down Lily.
And even if he changed his ways, was forgiven and was using Ivy all along, it seems strange that Lily would reunite with him.
4 How Lily Handled Her Children’s Problems
The list regarding Lily’s bad decisions could go on and on, but two of her biggest had to do with her children’s health and wellbeing. At the beginning of the show, Eric was in a facility, as he had tried to take his own life… and Lily tried to keep this from everyone, as she was embarrassed.
Later, she had Serena locked up in the same place, as she just immediately believed the worst about her daughter and was trying to hurry up and fix everything.
3 The Freedom These Privileged Kids Were Given
The main characters on this show were affluent and attractive, living it up on the Upper East Side. They had the money and resources needed to travel, party and then some, and their parents were absent quite a bit of the time.

Everyone has their own way of parenting, but a lot of these characters’ mistakes could have been avoided if there was more parental involvement and if there were more rules, boundaries, and punishments!
2 Lily Sending Ben To Prison
There is one more Lily mistake worth mentioning, and that would be when she sent an innocent man to prison. There were rumors that Ben Donovan was in a relationship with one of his students, Serena.
And since Lily always assumed her daughter was making the worst decisions, she did not talk to Serena about this or anything; she just turned over this information and had him sent away for years and years.
1 CeCe Rhodes Pretending To Be Sick
It is no wonder that Lily made such questionable decisions, as the apple did not fall far from the tree. Yes, her mother, CeCe Rhodes did a lot of horrible things, as well!
From flat-out insulting the Humphrey men and making it clear they were not good enough for her daughter and granddaughter to faking a sickness in order to get what she wanted, this woman was not a favorite character!
