Tavi Gevinson ‘Gossip Girl’: Former Oak Park blogger to star in reboot – Chicago Sun-Times
Tavi Gevinson, the actress who made her name as a child fashion writer in Chicago, is moving on to the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite on a “Gossip Girl” reboot.
She’ll be a lead on a reboot of “Gossip Girl” on HBO Max, the streaming channel confirms.
“Gossip Girl,” a dishy drama that ran from 2007 to 2012 on The CW, focused on the families and romances of upper-crust teens on the Upper East Side, as recounted by an omniscient, anonymous blogger. Based on a book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, it made stars of Blake Lively and Leighton Meester.
Online commentary is a familiar world for Gevinson, who first reached the cultural radar as an Oak Park preteen modeling and discussing fashion on her blog Style Rookie. She made a segue into acting and co-starred with Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin in a 2014 Steppenwolf production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “This Is Our Youth” that later moved to Broadway.
Since then she’s appeared on Fox’s “Scream Queens” and CBS All Access’ “The Twilight Zone.”
The new “Gossip Girl” will co-star Emily Alyn Lind, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat and Zion Morena. HBO Max is scheduled to launch in May.
