SXSW 2020: 15 Movies We Were Excited to See at the Film Festival – IndieWire
With this year’s edition of the SXSW cancelled in the wake of concerns about the growing coronavirus outbreak, hundreds of projects are suddenly left without a venue. That includes dozens of anticipated films from filmmakers both established and just starting out, from world premieres helmed by Oscar winners to first-time features made by creators barely out of college.
While the festival won’t come to Austin this year, IndieWire will continue to cover the film festival and its many selections, including a number of films that were initially expected to bow at the event. In industry parlance, a “curtainraiser” provides an overview of the offerings we can’t wait to check out; the literal curtain won’t rise on SXSW this year, but there are still a plenty of features from the lineup worthy of anticipation, however they get out into the world.
That includes these 15 films we have been tracking in recent weeks. As various SXSW entries (hopefully!) find new homes and fresh festival launchpads in the coming months, this list will stay updated, all the better to shine a light on some worthy features and their creators.
