There wasn’t much for the Houston Rockets and their fans to enjoy on the basketball court Saturday, with the team falling behind 20-0 in Charlotte on its way to a third consecutive defeat.
But road television broadcasters Craig Ackerman and Matt Bullard still found a way to have some fun, even given the score.
With the Rockets trailing in the second half, the AT&T SportsNet Southwest television cameras panned to former MVP Russell Westbrook on the sidelines, where he was in street clothes due to planned maintenance on the front end of a back-to-back.
In this case, street clothes for Westbrook — long revered for his unique fashion sense — consisted of what appeared to be a traditional suit above his waist, but accompanied by shorts beneath it.
Among the broadcast crew’s light-hearted commentary:
Ackerman: After the ballgame tonight, by the way, Russell Westbrook is going to be auditioning for the reconstituted AC/DC. …
We saw him earlier, and I don’t think we showed his legs. I didn’t realize he’s wearing a ‘business on the top, party on the bottom’ outfit.
Bullard: If he needed the extra money to get the full-length pants, I could’ve loaned it to him!
Fortunately for the Rockets, Westbrook will be back to wearing his usual uniform on Sunday as he returns from a one-game absence. The 2020 All-Star guard has led Houston with a 32.9 points per game scoring average since Jan. 9, all on very efficient 53.0% shooting from the field.
Tipoff between Westbrook’s Rockets (39-23) and the visiting Orlando Magic (28-35) is set for 6 p.m. Central from Toyota Center.
