Harry and Meghan winding down UK farewell tour – Page Six
The clock is about to strike midnight at the royal ball for Meghan and Harry.
On one of their last weekends as official royals, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry visited the UK to fulfill their final duties as Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The royal rule breakers ensured the spotlight would be on them as they arrived for the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall in London wearing matching red outfits.
On April 1, the Sussexes officially become commoners.
The pair’s flashy night out was just one of several royal engagements that will be filling their itinerary in the coming days. Meghan, a proud feminist, is expected to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday, USA Today reported.
On Monday, the couple will join Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the brood at Westminster Abbey, where they wed in 2018, to mark Commonwealth Day, which celebrates countries that were once part of the United Kingdom. This will be their final royal act.
In her pre-released speech for the event, the queen makes a subtle nod to her departing grandson and granddaughter-in-law by highlighting diversity.
“Such a blend of traditions serves to make us stronger, individually and collectively, by providing the ingredients needed for social, political and economic resilience,” it reads.
The Sussexes have been tying up loose ends behind the scenes, as well. They surprised their 15 staff members with a “festive” lunch at The Goring Hotel in London on Thursday.
A royal source said the couple had organized the farewell for their hardworking team.
“They’ve all been through so much together, and the staff have been working around-the-clock to make sure this last visit was as seamless as possible,” the source said.
“Meghan and Harry really wanted to show their appreciation, they know how hard everyone has worked.”
The former actress made a private visit on Friday to the National Theatre in London, where she is a patron.
She spent time exploring the theater’s Immersive Storytelling Studio with a photographer who took shots for the Sussex Royal Instagram page, which shared multiple photos of Meghan’s excursion that day.
Harry’s stepmom, Camilla, was reportedly “devastated” by Meghan’s post, because it upstaged her own speech about domestic abuse at the Women of the World Festival, according to the Daily Mirror.
