“Lizzie McGuire” star Hilary Duff is pleading with Disney, the company that helped launch her to stardom as a teen, to move the upcoming revival series from Disney+ to Hulu.

Duff took to Instagram Friday night to express her concerns that Disney’s family-friendly streaming service may limit the journey of her adult character on the reboot.

“Was incredibly excited to launch Lizzie on D+ and my passion remains!” Duff began in a statement posted on Instagram. “However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.”

The actress revealed in August that she would reprise her role as Lizzie McGuire in a revival series for Disney+, which launched in November.

The reboot reconnects viewers with Lizzie ahead of her 30th birthday. While she appears to have her New York City life together — working as a decorator’s assistant and finding luck in love — it turns out it’s still nice to be able to lean on her family, friends and that animated Lizzie.

“It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen / teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable,” Duff added.

She said it would be a “dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu,” which is majority-owned by the Walt Disney Company. Duff added: “If they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”

Disney didn’t immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Duff’s request comes days after the LBGTQ inclusive series “Love, Victor,” inspired by the 2018 film “Love, Simon,” was moved from Disney+ to Hulu over its mature content.

On Wednesday, the actress shared a screenshot on her Instagram Story of an article titled, “‘Love, Simon’ TV Show Pulled From Disney+ as It’s Not ‘Family Friendly.'” Duff wrote alongside the article, “Sounds familiar,” according to E! News.

The “Lizzie McGuire” revival is set to feature original cast members Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire) and Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire). Original series creator Terri Minsky was set to serve as showrunner, but stepped down from the project in January over its “creative direction,” according to Variety.

The half-hour comedy originally ran on the Disney Channel from 2001-04.
