Undercover FBI agent fact-checks classic mob movies – MLive.com

Could the frenetic pasta-cooking, helicopters-overhead, gotta-have-my-hat scene in the classic mob movie “Goodfellas” really have gone down that way? And how accurate was Tony Soprano’s daily life behind the doors of the Bada Bing strip club?

Lots of movies have organized crime running through their storylines. But how true-to-life are those details?

In a recent video done by Vanity Fair, they interview former undercover FBI agent Mike McGowan, who reviews notorious organized crime scenes from movies and television.

He deep dives into “Reservoir Dogs,” “The Departed,” “Donnie Brasco,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “The Sopranos,” “Goodfellas,” “Scarface,” “The Irishman,” “Billy Bathgate,”‘ “True Detective” and “Narcos” and analyzes the probability, craft and execution of their tactics.

“The only guarantee is that nothing will go as planned,” McGowan says, then goes on to reveal some pretty interesting details from his own work. One hint: don’t wear cheap socks – that could be a fatal mistake. And always remember to leave the gun, and take the cannoli.
