Rico’s Family Restaurant in Combined Locks, on the border with Kimberly, still has a Rico’s sign out front and Rico’s menu.

But as of Feb. 1, it was no longer a Rico’s.

Efrain “Rico” Carrasco sold his ownership stake in the location at 427 S. Washington St. and it is now in the transition between Rico’s and a new restaurant called Chico’s Cafe.

“A couple of employees wanted to buy it, so I sold it to them,” Carrasco said.

His other Rico’s locations – in Freedom, Appleton and Kaukauna – are operating normally and will accept all Rico’s gift cards, he said. He brought breakfast hours back to his Kaukauna location based on customer demand.

In the Combined Locks restaurant, Edgar Carrillo is one of the partners in the new Chico’s Cafe. He said hours and menus are the same right now, but they’ll make some adjustments in the future.

“There will be a few changes,” he said through an interpreter.

Carrillo had been a partner in this Rico’s branch since it opened in May 2015, and became half-owner last year.

The new Chico’s Café will have its own Facebook page in the future. Gift cards issued by the Rico’s Combined Locks location will be honored for a limited time, until the new sign is up, but he did not know a specific date when that will happen.
