Kendall Jenner among A-listers making blue-chip purchases at Frieze LA – Page Six
Stars and studio bosses eyed art at a VIP preview of Frieze Los Angeles — the Hollywood iteration of the preeminent art fair — on Thursday.
Kendall Jenner — whose collection reportedly already includes works by Tracey Emin and Lauren Greenfield — purchased a piece by blue-chip artist James Turrell at the shared Pace Gallery-Kayne Griffin Corcoran booth.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez checked out a “huge” George Condo piece, sources said, from Skarstedt Gallery. (Condo’s previously collaborated with Kanye West.) J.Lo and A-Rod were also seen at Blum & Poe’s booth eyeing art by Sam Durant.
Ari Emanuel — whose Endeavor owns Frieze — scooped up a work called “Angie and Kiana” by Jordan Casteel from Casey Kaplan gallery, we hear.
The fair, on Paramount’s backlot, kicked off with a VIP breakfast before stars including Leo DiCaprio, Brie Larson, Natalie Portman, Amy Poehler, A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, James Corden, Usher, Maria Sharapova and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham perused the booths.
Other attendees were studio head Jim Gianopulos, megacollectors Don and Mera Rubell, Beth Rudin DeWoody and Edythe Broad, artist Alex Israel, curators Hans Ulrich Obrist and Klaus Biesenbach, and Endeavor’s co-head Patrick Whitesell. Charlize Theron and Chloë Grace Moretz were at a MatchesFashion and Birkenstock pop-up event.
On the party scene, André Balazs co-hosted a swank kickoff bash at the Chateau Marmont with White Cube gallery featuring a screening of artist Sarah Morris’ 2004 short, “Los Angeles.” Street artist André Saraiva created a graffiti mural outside, and a gospel choir and the Compton High School marching band played. Over at the West Hollywood Edition, Graydon Carter’s Air Mail teamed with Lehmann Maupin gallery and MatchesFashion for a screening of artist Alex Prager’s video “Play the Wind,” plus a fashionable dinner.g
