It’s been a week since Macy’s corporate office announced it will close 125 stores – one-fifth of its fleet – over the next three years in a sweeping turnaround plan.

But it hasn’t said anything so far about the Macy’s store in the Fox River Mall.

The store did not appear on the list of 30 Macy’s stores in the first round of closures.

Macy’s Fox River Mall store was open and operating normally on Monday.

The initial list didn’t include any of the four Wisconsin stores.

Besides the store here, Macy’s has locations in Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Southridge Mall in Greendale and Hilldale Shopping Center in Madison.

Store managers are not allowed to speak to the press, and a Macy’s spokeswoman based in Chicago did not have the locations of the additional 95 stores that will be shut in the future.

“We do not have a list to share,” said spokeswoman Andrea Schwartz.

Macy’s owns its own building at the Fox River Mall. Sears, JCPenney and Target also own their own properties there. Younkers’ space is owned by a third party.

Macy’s is the Fox River Mall’s largest anchor store at 168,800 square feet on two levels. It was built in 1990 as a Dayton’s store and in 2001 became Marshall Field’s. In 2006, it was renamed Macy’s after Federated Department store purchased 11 regional department store brands around the country and made them all Macy’s stores.

The store here upgraded some of its carpeting, lighting and flooring last October.

In addition to store closures, Macy’s restructuring plan announced last week includes eliminating 2,000 corporate positions and closing offices in San Francisco and Cincinnati. The company’s headquarters will be consolidated in New York.

After cuts are complete, the company will end up with about 400 Macy’s locations, plus 40 Bloomingdale’s stores and 170 Bluemercury stores.

This week it said it plans to lure shoppers back by enhancing its Star Rewards loyalty program. All customers can now earn rewards points on everything they buy.
