Reader question: Did you know that Cherry Pickers on Van Roy in Appleton will be closing? I think today or this week.

Answer: The Cherry Pickers clothing resale store at W3169 Van Roy Road in Buchanan has closed, and it notified customers on Facebook on Monday morning. It was in a strip mall east of Festival Foods.

“We have decided to relocate the Appleton Cherry Pickers to Chippewa Falls to be with all of our other locations,” it said in the post.

In a separate email, co-owner Dan Coleman said the store’s ongoing locations are all in the Chippewa Valley on the west side of the state, including Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire and Menomonie. See locations and hours at imacherrypicker.com.

“Until this past fall, we also had a location in the Wausau Center Mall for many years, before that mall’s collapse in occupancy,” he wrote.

“The original goal was to expand in the Fox Valley, but after the closure of Wausau, we found Appleton three hours away on an island. We are a family business and we found the distance was a huge obstacle for us. We strived to make it work up until the final days, but it is time for us to go home,” he said.

The store was not a consignment operation and did not offer gift cards. He said the only outstanding customer issue could be returns. “We will accept returns on any items that are eligible through one of our other locations. Questions can be submitted through email [email protected],” he wrote.
