Three businesses on the east side – in Darboy, Kimberly and Appleton – are either closed or are preparing to close branches.
Chocolate & Coffee
Chocolate & Coffee Bistro has closed at 819 Schelfhout Lane in Kimberly. No information was available about why it was shuttered. Calls on Friday during regular hours went to the coffee shop’s voice mail and messages were not returned.
Its satellite branch in the Heart of the Valley YMCA also closed.
“It is with great sadness and disappointment we share that Chocolate & Coffee Bistro is going out of business,” said a note posted on its door January 21. “We were informed today that the store in Kimberly and our cafe will close effective January 31, 2020.”
The main location on Schelfhout Lane in Kimberly is in a shopping plaza roughly across the street from Kimberly High School.
The plaza’s owner, Tim Rausch, said he just learned recently that the business was closing.
He doesn’t expect the space to be dark for long.
“There are other parties interested in reopening it,” he said.
Scanlan Jewelers
The longtime Scanlan Jewelers location at 2031 E. Calumet St. in Appleton is in the process of closing.
Judy Scanlan, third generation owner, said she will keep her Green Bay Scanlan Jewelers location open at 2304 Lineville Road.
“I’m stepping down a little bit,” she said. “I’m downsizing.”
The Appleton location has a sale going on now. Scanlan said she was unsure when it will close.
“I don’t have an end date set,” she said. “Maybe in May or June.”
The business was founded by her grandfather in 1903. The family had a store in the Valley Fair Mall before this location opened.
Old National Bank
Old National Bank will close April 24 at W3160 County KK at the corner of Eisenhower Drive in Darboy.
It will continue to operate branches at 1220 W. Northland Ave. in Appleton and 971 S. Green Bay Road in Neenah.
The Indiana-based Old National Bank said it is consolidating 31 branches based on customers shifting towards digital banking.
“It’s very much a trend with financial services,” said Andrea Finck, vice president of community relations for the bank’s Wisconsin sites.
Besides the Calumet Street branch, nine others will close in Wisconsin outside of the Fox Cities.
