SAG Awards 2020: How to watch and livestream – New York Post

No need to endure the post-Golden Globe doldrums any longer. The 2020 SAG awards are here.

Despite the deluge of lazy live-action reboots, it was a banner year for TV and film, the best of which will be honored Sunday, Jan. 19, at the 26th annual celebration. Joaquin Phoenix turned in a career-defining — albeit controversial — performance in  “Joker,” while Rachel Brosnahan electrified comedy fans as the quick-witted titular character of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” series.

Leading the nominee list that dropped on Dec. 11 were Leonardo DiCaprio, 45, (“Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”), Cynthia Erivo, 33, (“Harriet”), Adam Driver, 36, (“Marriage Story”) and more. Heading up the pack of outstanding ensemble hopefuls are “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” “The Irishman” and “Marriage Story,” with “Fleabag” and “The Crown” expected to snag TV wins.

Without further ado, we submit this quintessential roadmap to the highly anticipated award show.

What are the SAG awards?

You’ve see the hashtag on social media every winter but what does it mean? SAG stands for Screen Actors Guild, the entertainment union which has put on the awards since 1995. The SAG awards are similar to the Globes except they exclusively award actors rather than those working behind-the-scenes. Nominees are chosen by their fellow performers, rather than a critics association like the Globes, making the SAGs perhaps a better predictor of who’s going to take home Oscar gold. Think of it as the award show for actors by actors.

When are the SAG awards?

The 2020 SAG awards kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Red carpet coverage will air beforehand beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.

How to watch the SAGs?

You can catch the SAGs telecast on both TBS and TNT beginning at 8 p.m. ET. If you can’t be bothered to look up from your smartphone, TNT and TBS subscribers can view the live feed on the network’s apps and websites using your cable log-in details or on streaming services Roku, Apple TV, Fubo TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick. And don’t fret if you’re overseas — the simulcast will also air worldwide, and even at US military bases through the American Forces Network.

How can I watch the pre-show?

Tune into a livestream of the pre-show beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET on: PeopleTV, the SAG Awards’ website, TNT, PEOPLE.com, and EW. Along with the annual red carpet coverage, this year’s award show appetizer will see SAG nominees Harry Shum Jr. (“Crazy Rich Asians”) and Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) announce the honorees for Outstanding Action Performances by Film and Television Stunt Ensembles.

Who will host this year?

Unlike the Oscars, which recently switched from hosted to host-less (in the wake of the Kevin Hart debacle), the SAGs didn’t feature an emcee until Kristen Bell in 2018, followed by Megan Mullally last year. Alas, the SAGs announced late last week that there won’t be a host for 2020.
