Return of famous resident causes buzz in Winona – KTTC

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) – The excitement started around town after flyers popped up looking for extras to help out in a shoot for a commercial.

As it turns out, that commercial is actually a Super Bowl ad featuring “Stranger Things” actress and Winona born Winona Ryder.

The production work was noticeable with cameras downtown and restricted parking spaces. Several of the roads off of Main Street, including 2nd and 3rd Streets, were being used Tuesday afternoon for filming.

The secretive nature of the shoot was evident with law enforcement officers present. Residents were speculating about what was actually happening.

“They said it’s a commercial that’s apparently for the Super Bowl, and Winona Ryder’s going to be in it, so that kind of awe struck me a little bit but it seems pretty cool for a town like this,” said resident Ben Strand.

One resident mentioned first seeing film crews in town Monday afternoon. Many people said they also knew something out of the ordinary was going to happen when a billboard and a storefront for a fictional “Winona Outfitters” business went up. Several speculated that the ad is for the Squarespace app. However, whether these speculations are correct and the role that Winona, the town and Winona, the actress, play in it are still a mystery.
