Family Video in Neenah is preparing to close.

The last day to rent movies is Tuesday, New Year’s Eve.

The location is at 1126 S. Commercial St. on Neenah’s south side. It will become a Dollar General in the future.

Customers can purchase much of this Family Video’s inventory over the next few weeks.

“We’ll stay open through January 16 to sell highly discounted movies, candy, soda, CBD and games,” said Family Video regional director Mike Kohne.

Other Family Video locations in the Fox Cities will remain open.

“As of right now, it’s the only one closing,” he said.

The nearest Family Video branches are at 1250 Appleton Road in Menasha and 350 Ohio St. in Oshkosh.

Other tenants in the Neenah building — Barrel 41 and Marco’s Pizza — will remain.

Kohne said Family Video has more than 550 stores nationwide. Because it owns all of its buildings, he said the company thinks more like a landlord than a tenant.

“Over the last two years, we’ve been reducing the size of our video stores and bringing in tenants,” he said. “We have an opportunity here to lease to Dollar General, with a ten-year lease, and that will keep the building fully rented. We’ll make more money on this space having a tenant than having video rentals over the next ten years.”
