ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — For many, Christmas is a time for family traditions, which includes trip to the movies. KTTC stopped by the CMX Chateau to see how families are enjoying the day.
“It’s the busiest day of the year, it’s crazy around here,” said CMX Chateau General Manager, Jason Rausch.
A busy day for the theater and a day full of family traditions.
“There’s just families upon families upon families coming in and it’s just to see the smile on kids faces, just having conversations with them is very fulfilling for us,” continued.
Some of those traditions long standing.
“This is our kind of annual tradition to come down to Rochester. We live in Minneapolis, so we spend time with our family here and we go to a movie every day,” said movie goer, Banning Young, while his dad added, “30 years in a row for us coming to Christmas movies here.”
And the beginning of some new traditions.
“So we had Christmas at my house this morning and we thought it would be an awesome idea to come to the movie theater,” said movie goer, Jessica McNallan.
But in order to make those memories for families, employees have to sacrifice their own time.
“My staff they have to give up time with their families, but we’re a part of everybody else’s family tradition, so it’s really cool,” added Rausch.
And there’s always plenty of movies to see on Christmas, but a few take the cake.
“Little Women, a real classic,” said Young.
“We found Little Women was coming out and this is their absolute favorite movie, or favorite book, so now it’s a movie we’d like to see,” continued McNallan.
“So it’s Star Wars this year. It’s crazy, Christmas is always busy, but when it’s Star Wars it’s extra busy, because you have all the people that are coming anyway and then you have all the people coming for Star Wars, above and beyond that,” said Rausch.
A day like none other for movie theaters and a day they can make their calling card.
“This is a moment when people will come here that maybe don’t normally come to the movies, so this is our opportunity to give them the best service they’ve ever gotten. So when they think about going to a movie, they go again, they think of the Chateau,” explained Rausch.
Whether young or old, a new or steady tradition, people love to get out to the theater and watch movies on Christmas day.
