REAL TO MAKE ‘SUPER OFFER’ FOR KOULIBALY
Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with a move to the Premier League seemingly since the dawn of time but it could be that the Napoli defender is heading elsewhere.
Apparently, Real Madrid are psyching themselves up to make a big offer next summer for the Senegal centre-back who they see as the ideal replacement for Sergio Ramos. According to Calciomercato, the plan is bring Koulibaly in to play alongside Ramos for a year before the captain is shuffled off into the sunset when his contract expires in 2021.
It doesn’t say how much Real might pay, only that they will make a ‘super offer’. Given they couldn’t copper up enough cash to buy Paul Pogba last summer and they supposedly want Kylian Mbappe too, Aurelio De Laurentiis probably isn’t getting too excited just yet.
LIVERPOOL TARGET TURKEY STOPPER
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir already this season and it seems their interest remains. The Mirror reckons the Reds had representatives watching the 23-year-old last weekend – though they were in good company.
Juventus and two other unnamed European clubs were also in attendance to take a look at Cakir in action against Galatasaray. His agent said last week that there are four English clubs interested but anyone thinking of making an offer in January should forget it: “Trabzonspor value Cakir as being worth a minimum £18m, and will not sell him in January,” Engin Kirkpinar said. “An end-of-season move could however be on the cards.”
MANAGERIAL MERRY-GO-ROUND CONTINUES
Again, many of the whispers this morning focus on managers coming, going or not going anywhere at all.
Everyone is still guessing over who Arsenal might appoint. The list of candidates has grown from seven on Saturday to as many as 12, according to the Mirror. Who has been added to the ever-increasing shortlist? It doesn’t say, though Mikel Arteta is supposed to be the leading candidate.
But the Evening Standard reckons the job is Freddie Ljungberg’s if the caretaker boss oversees a sufficient turnaround in the fortunes in the coming matches. The Daily Mail, however, suggests the Gunners are covering their backs by making a play for Marcelino. Everton are also keen on the Valencia coach, though they have yet to sack their manager. Marco Silva will certainly get the derby on Wednesday, according to the Daily Express.
Not far from Arsenal, Watford are also on the lookout for another manager. Sky Sports says former Athletic Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda has held talks with the Hornets but he must have had a stinker of an interview because he is no longer under consideration. The Daily Mail reports that the Premier League’s bottom side could make a stop-gap appointment until next summer, which would be some show of faith from a club who have already gone through two managers this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be available. The Sun says the Manchester United boss has told his players that he could be sacked if results go against him this week, when he comes up against Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.
