Reader question: I see the Third Street Market is sold. Do you know what is going in there? Sure miss that little market.
Answer: The former grocery store at 403 Third Street in Menasha, which closed around the end of 2016, was sold Oct. 18 to T&J’s Capital Holdings out of Neenah for $875,000, according to state records.
The business coming in is Bertram Dental Lab, a longstanding local dental lab that started in 1976.
Both the business and building are owned by cousins Tim Bertram and Jim Bertram.
“We need the space,” said Tim Bertram. “This is three-and-a-half-times bigger.”
The business is currently located in a leased building in Neenah that’s bursting at the seams. They have 65 full-time employees.
The technical business makes individual partial dentures using 3D printing and other advanced techniques.
”We make a metal guide for the doctors to guide their surgery for placing patients’ dental implants. We do a lot of casting, the same way jewelry is made, to make partial dentures,” he said.
Construction work on the building will start by mid-December, and they hope to move in by April.
So while you may be disappointed that the business isn’t a grocery store, nearby businesses, including restaurants, bars and shops, will be happy about the influx of Bertram Dental Lab employees, who will be new potential customers.
Also note that the Menasha Market, a building that will house multiple businesses, is getting set up in the former city hall at 140 Main St. in downtown Menasha. Its organizers hope to lure a grocery store into the mix.
