These Are the Disney Movies You Can’t Stream on Disney+ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Disney+ is finally here, and while day-of-launch glitches irritated some subscribers, the reaction so far has been positive. After all, the $6.99/month streaming service gives people access to a ton of beloved Disney films, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Moana, plus a host of Marvel movies, new shows like The Mandalorian, and much more. What’s not to love?

Ten million subscribers have already signed on for Disney+, which will eventually become the streaming home for all family-friendly, Disney-owned content. But while they’ll find almost 500 movies to watch, plus thousands of TV episodes, there are a few things that are missing from the Disney+ library.

Some outdated Disney movies aren’t on Disney+

People who hit play on certain older Disney films, including The Aristocats, Dumbo, and Lady & the Tramp, will see a warning that what they are about to watch “may contain outdated cultural depictions.” But some movies were deemed too problematic to let out of the vault at all, noted the New York Times.

Most notably, the 1946 hybrid live-action and animated musical Song of the South is missing. The film has been widely criticized for its racist depiction of African-Americans in the post -Civil War south. It has not been shown in the U.S. since 1986.

Though less well-known than Song of the South, the 1944 short Commando Duck is also not on Disney+. The military propaganda cartoon, which sees Donald Duck sent on a mission to Japan, features racist caricatures of Japanese soldiers.

You also won’t be able to watch the largely forgotten 1981 Disney movie The Devil and Max Devlin. It stars convicted sexual predator Bill Cosby as the devil, who promises to return a slumlord to life if he can convince three people to sell him their souls.

Some Disney movies are still on other streaming services

A handful of Disney movies are still on other streaming services, which means you won’t find them on Disney+.

Tarzan, Mary Poppins Returns, A Wrinkle in Time, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Christopher Robin, The Princess and the Frog, and Coco are among the Disney films that are all still on Netflix — for now. The same goes for certain Marvel and Star Wars movies missing from Disney+, including Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Solo, and The Last Jedi.

HBO has other Disney flicks, including Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, The Mighty Ducks (and its sequels), and Holes.

Some Disney movies aren’t streaming anywhere

In some cases, you simply aren’t able to stream certain Disney movies. Recent releases like Toy Story 4 and the live-action versions of Aladdin and The Lion King aren’t yet available. Up, Enchanted, Maleficent and the live-action versions of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast aren’t streaming either.

Other movies you won’t find on Disney+ include Oz the Great and Powerful, Prince of Persia, Alice Through the Lookingglass, Mars Needs Moms, and John Carter.
