Moon Water Café is a new, cozy, neighborhood cafe that’s barely bigger than a living room.
The tiny cafe is at 606 N. Lawe St. in an older Appleton neighborhood halfway between City Park and Peabody Park. It’s in the block north of Jacobs Meat Market, and has parking in back.
Neighbors run into each other as they come and go for coffee or linger to play a game of cribbage. The shop seats just 15 and smells like freshly baked bread.

“I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 25 years and always thought our neighborhood would thrive having something like this,” said the cafe’s owner, Shannon Boegh.
Boegh, who was previously Appleton Beer Factory’s kitchen manager, is admittedly frugal and started the cafe with a GoFund Me page and her own savings. She collected second-hand furniture “garage sale by garage sale.”
She likes to support local companies, and serves Acoca coffee, greens from Riverview Gardens and beer from Appleton Beer Factory and McFleshman’s Brewing Co.
Her chalkboard menu has organic tea, fresh bakery, soup, salads, quiche, flatbreads, cider and wine.
