A must see for families and adults, it aims to make sense of the science that shapes our lives and has award winning exhibitions and many iconic objects on show. The museum has free entry, but there are also some great extra attractions such as the Wonderlab interactive gallery, which are well worth paying for.

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich

Home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian of the World, the Observatory is also home to London’s only planetarium, the Harrison timekeepers and the UK’s largest refracting telescope. The interactive Weller Astronomy Galleries will help you unravel the mysteries of the cosmos.

Housing the Victoria and Albert Museum’s collection of childhood related objects and artefacts from the 1600s to the present day. It’s a chance for today’s kids to see what entertained generations before them.

An extraordinary journey through time that will give you an understanding of London’s transport heritage. There are lots of interactive displays including the chance to get behind the driving seat of a tube train simulator.

Tower of London

A chance to experience history where it happened and where famous figures such as Anne Boleyn met their end. Make sure you see the exhibition of the Crown Jewels. Less well known is an exhibition about the animals that have lived at the Tower over the years – including lions and a polar bear.

Churchill War Rooms, King Charles Street

During the Second World war a group of basement offices known as the Cabinet War Rooms were occupied by government ministers, military strategists and the Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The rooms were used as a meeting place for the war cabinet during air raids. – it met there 115 times, mostly during the Blitz.

Natural History Museum, South Kensington

Housed in a vast magnificent building, this world-famous museum houses over 80 million specimens from the natural world. It is famous for its dinosaurs but there are many other amazing exhibits including a 25.2 metre long blue whale skeleton and a rare piece of Mars rock.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

From Victorian glasshouses to an Alpine rock garden, there is plenty to see in the vast grounds of Kew Gardens. It has been at the forefront of scientific research since it was opened in 1759. There is a good selection of restaurants as well as an extensive play area for children open in 2019.

London Wetland Centre

Set in a loop of the Thames, the Wetland Centre is perfect for a relaxing walk along paths that meander along lakes, meadows and gardens. It attracts wild ducks, butterflies, bats, amphibians and water voles. A special attraction is watching thresident otters at feeding time.
