The former Wichmann Building at 513 W. College Ave. in downtown Appleton is coming back to life as a place for weddings, concerts and events.
The 1922 building had previously housed Riverview Gardens’ retail and offices, but has largely been empty and quiet for a few years.
The new venue is called The 513.
It’s being developed by three young professionals, Teresa Lingg, Kolby Knuth and Samuel Schmidt. The Common Council approved their special use permit this week, and they completed the building’s purchase. State records show they paid $520,000.
“We love the location and we all care a lot about downtown Appleton,” said Lingg. “The building has a very grand feel. The bones of it are great. The space speaks for itself when you enter.”
Lingg is a real estate broker for Commercial Horizons, Knuth is a financial planner and Schmidt is an engineer.
The building’s first and second floor mezzanine will be leased for weddings, corporate events, fundraisers and concerts. It can seat 400. The third and fourth floors will be leased as individual office spaces.
“We are hoping renovations start in December. We can start booking events now for spring of 2020,” Lingg said.

“The chandeliers are staying. Everything will be updated. We’re refinishing the hardwood floors and adding a warming kitchen and built-in bar. We’re adding a new elevator for the entire building.”
