Jets coach has curious reply to Leonard Williams trade buzz – New York Post
Jets coach Adam Gase left the door open for a possible trade of Leonard Williams on Monday.
Gase was asked about an ESPN report that said multiple teams were interested in dealing for the Jets defensive lineman before the Oct. 29 trade deadline.
“I don’t know what other teams are thinking,” Gase said on a conference call with reporters. “Right now, I like the way our guys are rolling. Anything’s always possible, but right now I like how our team is. “
The Jets face an interesting decision on Williams, who is scheduled to become a free agent in March. He is widely respected around the league, but does not fill up the stat sheet. Jets coaches say he is doing what is asked of him and he has an impact, but Williams has no sacks this season and just two in his last 16 games.
Gase said he has not heard of any possible trades from general manager Joe Douglas or the personnel staff.
“I really don’t deal in the hypothetical aspect,” Gase said. “These guys get calls all year round about trades and things like that. That’s really not something I’m going to be dealing with unless guys come to me and tell me something’s on the table. I haven’t had any of those conversations.”

Gase had some positive injury news.
The Jets expect C.J. Mosley (groin) to be able to practice this week. Mosley has missed the last four games.
Gase also said TE Chris Herndon is “progressing well” from a hamstring strain and could practice this week.
“We’re going to be smart with him,” Gase said. “We’re going to try to get him on the practice field this week and see how it goes. He’s feeling better. The signs are pointing to hopefully a return sooner than later.”
LT Kelvin Beachum sprained his ankle in Sunday’s win over the Cowboys and is “week-to-week,” according to Gase. That could mean Beachum will miss Monday’s game with the Patriots. Brandon Shell played in place of Beachum and Gase said he played well.
NT Steve McLendon has a hamstring strain and is “day-to-day.” LB Neville Hewitt is also “day-to-day” after suffering a stinger in the game. Gase also said DL Henry Anderson (shoulder) and CB Nate Hairston (knee) are improving and might practice.
The Jets activated Herndon from his suspension and cut OLB Frankie Luvu.
