Classic Disney Channel Original Movies We Might See on Disney+ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet
Disney’s releasing its own streaming service, Disney+ (find out when it’s available here), and that means users will have access to a wide range of TV shows and movies (learn what films will be on the streaming service when it launches).
While we’re excited about having access to hours and hours of Disney magic, we’re hoping we’ll be able to watch some of our favorite Disney Channel original movies from the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Continue reading to learn which classic Disney Channel originals we might see on Disney+.
‘Halloweentown’
About a teen who loved Halloween but couldn’t understand why her mom didn’t, Marnie Piper (Kimberly J. Brown) discovered Halloweentown, a place full of magic and witches, where her grandmother (Debbie Reynolds) lived and soon learned she was a witch herself.
Similar to a feature film from Disney we know and love — we’re looking at you, Hocus Pocus — Halloweentown has become a cult classic since it premiered in 1998 and has developed quite the following. The original was such as success it spawned three additional movies. Every year, the city where Halloweentown was filmed, St. Helen, Ore. celebrates by holding a month-long event, Spirit of Halloweentown.
‘Brink!’
1998’s Brink!, an original movie all about inline skaters made us want to pick up a new sport but in reality, all we did was develop a crush on Erik von Detten and add some new words to our vocabulary.
‘Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century’
Zetus lapetus! We’ve never wanted to live on a space station more than after watching Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century. The film followed Zenon Kar (Kirsten Storms) as she got banished to Earth after being suspected of something fishy on her space station home. The original spawned a sequel appropriately titled, Zenon: The Zequel.
‘High School Musical’
We couldn’t make a list of classic Disney Channel original movies without High School Musical.

The 2006 movie starring Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens made them superstars and launched a sequel followed by a feature film. Just this year Efron made fun of his dance moves in the movie.
‘Under Wraps’
Disney’s first original movie, Under Wraps, about a mummy come to life, is still a good Halloween movie to watch with family members of all ages even though it premiered more than 20 years ago in 1997. Yes, it’s a bit cheesy at times (What Disney movies aren’t?).
‘Rip Girls’
Camilla Belle starred in Disney’s Rip Girls in her child acting days. She played a girl who discovered her family’s roots in Hawaii while learning to surf. The movie premiered on the Disney Channel in 2000 and, according to Insider, it has a 69% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s likely the nostalgia but if Disney puts even half of the aforementioned original movies on Disney+, we’re signing up for the streaming service.
‘Smart House’
20 years later, we still daydream about a self-cleaning home after watching Smart House. Premiering in June of 1999, Smart House followed the Cooper family as they navigated life after losing their mother. Ben Cooper (Ryan Merriman) attempted to keep his dad from dating by making their computerized house a stand-in mother and wife, who they called Pat (Katey Sagal).
