New on Netflix October 2019 – Best New Movies And Shows on Netflix Streaming Now – Esquire.com

October brings with it that first real autumn chill, which means it’s also time to sink into the couch and barrel through some new Netflix movies. This month ushers in some Netflix originals and some favorites that you probably watched in 2007 and have never revisited. On October 18, Netlfix original The Laundromat brings Meryl Streep into the Netflix family for the first time. The Bucket List (2007) is also back this month to remind whoever needs reminding that we haven’t seen Jack Nicholson in a film in nearly a decade. Oceans Twelve and Thirteen are also likely welcome additions for the crowd missing circa 2007 films (and Brad Pitt in his prime).
The Karate Kid is also coming to Netflix, in case anyone needs inspiration for a simple, yet acceptable Halloween costume. And the Pursuit of Happyness is clearly just there for the tear-jerker to balance a month dedicated to scary movies. Here are ten movies coming to Netflix this month that are worth getting out the good popcorn bowl for.
The Pursuit of Happyness
This 2006 drama features pre-activist Jaden Smith and his father, Will Smith, in a depiction of a father and son who struggle with homelessness as they work toward a better life. Gabriel Muccino’s film got Smith his second nomination for a Best Actor Oscar 2007.
Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle
Before the new Charlie’s Angels debuts in November, Netflix is helping any fans prepare with some early 2000s Charlie’s viewing. Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore brought this 1970s series into the modern age, and for that they deserve some attention this month.
Men in Black and Men in Black II
This is a month for some Will Smith classics. Smith and Tommy Lee Jones team up to fight some aliens and look suave doing it. The 1997 and 2002 films follow this past summer’s release of Men in Black: International, in case anyone has a hankering for some O.G. MIB.
The Bucket List
“Let’s Bucket List this shit” is maybe one of the best lines Stanley Tucci has ever uttered (in 2010’s Easy A), and it’s worth repeating when scrolling the Netflix queue this month. This film features heavy-hitters Jack Nicholson and Morgan Friedman as men in the last phases of their life—just trying to cross things off the list.
Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen
The power of a heist movie never dies. The original Ocean’s crew of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and company are back on Netflix this month with several blueprints of how to commit a crime in a movie. The phrase “do not try this at home” comes to mind.
The Laundromat
This Netflix original features some A-list talent who are trying out the Netflix platform for the first time. Meryl Streep took a dive into HBO-land with this summer’s Big Little Lies, but this Steven Soderbergh film about a widow investigating insurance fraud is her first project behind a big red “N.” Antonio Banderas and Gary Oldman join her.
Scream 2
For something to play at the Halloween parties of the throwback-spooky variety, this 1997 Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and Naomi Campbell classic directed by Wes Craven proves that when there’s an original movie about a slew of murders, there’s usually a sequel about exactly the same thing. Happy Halloween.
