The Best Movies Coming to Showtime in October 2019, Including 5 Scary Flicks to Watch on Halloween – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Fall is here, and so are plenty of new movies and TV shows on Showtime. The premium cable channel has added some spooky films to its lineup for October to get you ready for Halloween, along with fresh episodes of The Affair and Couples Therapy, a brand new documentary about Judy Garland, and a neo-noir that’s considered one of the greatest films ever made.

Halloween is just around the corner, and Showtime is getting into the spirit of the season by adding some must-see horror movies to its streaming lineup, including these creepy favorites. All are streaming from October 1.

The Fog: Scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis stars in this 1980 horror film from John Carpenter about a coastal town haunted by the ghosts of sailors killed in a shipwreck.

Jacob’s Ladder: Tim Robbins stars as a Vietnam vet plagued by disturbing visions and nightmares in this psychological horror film directed by Adrian Lyne.

Open Water: A couple on a scuba-diving vacation is stranded in the ocean open when they’re accidentally left behind by the boat’s crew. Soon, hungry sharks are circling in this 2004 movie, which is based on a real incident.

Zodiac: It’s not a horror movie, but David Fincher’s 2007 movie about the notorious Zodiac killer who terrorized San Francisco in the 1960s and 1970s is full of chills, especially when you remember that this serial murderer was never caught.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls: If you’re looking for a funny, family-friendly film with a dash a scariness, try this 2018 adaptation of John Bellairs’ beloved novel from horror vet Eli Roth, which tells the story of an orphan who moves into his uncle’s mysterious mansion and finds himself tangling with witches and warlocks.

Other horror movies coming to Showtime in October include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, They Live, The Ruins, Hell Fest, The Lawnmower Man, and Vacancy.

New Showtime originals

New episodes of several Showtime original series also arrive in October.

The Circus (Sundays at 8/7c) focuses on the Democratic candidates who hope to take on Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. The final season of The Affair (Sundays at 9/8c) also continues, as do On Becoming a God in Central Florida (Sundays at 10/9c) and Couples Therapy (Fridays at 10/9c).

The Showtime docuseries Murder in the Bayou wraps up on Friday, October 11 at 9/8c. Sid & Judy, a new documentary about Judy Garland, premieres Friday, October, 18 at 8:05 p.m.
