The royal family is expanding once again.

On Thursday, Princes Beatrice announced that she is engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, her boyfriend of roughly one year.

According to a statement from her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the proposal took place in Italy earlier this month. The ring, which Mozzi helped design with British jeweler Shaun Leane, features a massive round-cut diamond center stone flanked by four baguette diamonds and a pave band.

The platinum and diamond engagement ring is a fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs, according to the designer. “I am so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives,” Leane wrote on Instagram. “The bespoke experience was a beautiful journey; from imagining the design with Edoardo to the crafting of the finished rings. Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining.”

The couple also took their excitement to social media. “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” Beatrice, 31, and Mozzi, 34, a multimillionaire real estate magnate wrote on Instagram. “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.”

The all-diamond engagement ring is very different from sister Princess Eugenie’s pink padparadscha sapphire, given to her by now-husband James Brooksbank last year. Eugenie’s also mirrors that of her mother, the Duchess of York, and Princess Diana’s styles — a center oval precious gemstone surrounded by diamonds.

While Kate Middleton now sports Diana’s blue ring, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is most similar to Beatrice’s as it also features a three-diamond look. However, the Duchess of Sussex’s stones are a more square cushion cut than her younger cousin-in-law’s.

Beatrice and Mozzi will wed in 2020.
