Prince Harry claims private jet travel is to protect family – Page Six

Prince Harry claimed his repeated private jet travel doesn’t kill his eco-credibility — and blamed it on his need to “ensure that my family are safe.”

The British royal has faced fierce criticism this summer for repeatedly flying private, creating huge amounts of extra carbon emissions while painting himself as an eco-warrior.

The 34-year-old faced his critics while launching a new eco-tourism project in Amsterdam, admitting, “We could all do better.”

“I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial,” insisted the prince, who flew private four times in just 11 days this summer.

However, Harry — who flew commercial to Tuesday’s event — still insisted he was justified in using private jets when with his family, wife Meghan Markle and their 3-month-old son Archie.

“Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe,” he said.

The Queen’s grandson said it was “about balance,” insisting he makes up for the environmental damage in other ways.

“I have always offset my CO2,” Harry said, according to The Sun.

“We could all do better. While no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact. The question is what we do to balance it out.”

He said that the “scale of the conservation crisis feels overwhelming” and sometimes makes it hard to know what is the correct action.

“I’ve certainly felt that – but I’ve learned that we cannot dismiss the idea of trying to do something, just because we can’t do everything,” he said, according to The Sun.

Harry and Markle took private jets to Nice and Ibiza in August, creating seven times the normal amount of carbon emissions on the flights, according to The Sun.

The backlash grew so fierce that Elton John, whose jet they used to vacation with the star in Nice, spoke out to condemn the public “assassinations on their character.”

Harry was also one of those at the summer’s controversial Google Camp, where billionaires avoided their gas-guzzling private travel to celebrate their environmental ambitions.
