The Appleton Rock School, a music school that’s been in downtown Appleton for eight years, will move into its new Menasha home over the holiday weekend and be ready for students Tuesday.

The school’s previous Washington Street building is slated for demolition as part of a coming $6.2 million housing development.

The school’s new building is at 1487 Kenwood Drive in Menasha, which is a freestanding building a block west of Piggly Wiggly and across Midway Road from Ascension’s large medical clinic.

Appleton Rock School offers individual guitar, voice, bass, piano, ukulele and drum lessons for students ages 7 to 18, plus group performance programs.

“We put the kids into bands and they go out to play gigs,” said school owner and guitar teacher Jason Lipsky. See students play, for example, at License to Cruise and Octoberfest the last weekend of September.

Lipsky bought the building for $205,000 and spruced it up with new carpet and paint.

“It was an office building, so it is set up for what we need. A previous business had a recording studio in there, and that fits our needs right off the bat,” he said.
