These are the celebrities with the most fake Instagram followers – harpersbazaar.com

A new survey has uncovered the A-list celebrities who have the highest number of fake followers on social media – and you might be surprised at the results.

The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance compiled a list of the most-followed stars across two categories – ‘Showbiz’ and ‘Sports’ – and ran tests to establish how many of their Instagram and Twitter followers were in fact real people.

In the ‘Showbiz’ category, American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres was found to have the highest number of fake followers overall at 48 per cent.

In second place was Korean pop band BTS with 47 per cent of fake followers, followed by Kourtney Kardashian in third place with 46 per cent.

The Kardashians dominated the Instagram breakdown, with Kourtney’s sisters Kim and Khloé also making the list, both having 44 per cent fake followers.

Other big names with the most automated followers across their two social platforms include Ariana Grande (46 per cent), Taylor Swift (46 per cent), Miley Cyrus (45 per cent) and Priyanka Chopra (43 per cent). It’s worth noting that having fake or ‘bot’ followers, doesn’t necessarily mean that that respective celebrity paid for the follower boost.

Here are the top 10 ‘Showbiz’ celebrities with the most overall fake followers:

  1. Ellen DeGeneres – 49%
  2. BTS – 47%
  3. Kourtney Kardashian – 46%
  4. Taylor Swift – 46%
  5. Ariana Grande – 46%
