Reader question: Not sure if you had this and I just missed it, but have you heard that the Burger King in Neenah is closing soon?
Answer: Back in April, I wrote that that Burger King’s days were numbered. The building at 977 S. Green Bay Road is listed on a real estate site as for sale or lease.
“Our contract is up with Burger King and our lease is up,” Burger King store manager Josh Harrington said in April. He said the location would close in the summer or fall.
Employees are now telling customers the Neenah branch will close in two weeks.
Burger King’s local franchise owner did not return calls asking if the branch will relocate elsewhere.
Reader question: What do you know about Jimmy John’s on Ballard Road, south of McDonald’s? It still has paper over its windows. When is it opening?
Answer: Jimmy John’s at 3226 N. Ballard Road in Appleton is waiting for its final occupancy permit from the city. It was delayed because of an unforeseen drainage issue, said Kurt Konietzki, franchise owner with wife Debbie.
He didn’t give a new opening estimate.
“That rests entirely with the city,” he said. “We’ve proposed some solutions and they’ve got to take a look at them.”
UPDATE
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery and Marie Callender filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday and closed 29 under-performing restaurants. Two of the Perkins closures were in Wisconsin – in Janesville and La Crosse – according to Nation’s Restaurant News. Perkins said in a statement it will operate its remaining 342 restaurants normally while it seeks a buyer.
