Winner winner chicken dinner?
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen might have the edge in the race between two popular national chicken restaurant chains opening shortly on College Avenue.
Popeyes aims to open within two to three weeks, though the exact date is still being determined.
“It’s definitely going to be sometime in the middle of August,” said Jeremiah Carpenter, project manager for Smitco Eateries Inc., the Popeyes franchise owner based in Springdale, Arkansas.
The Appleton site is at 2800 W. College Ave.
Chick-fil-A, another national chicken restaurant less than a mile west of Popeyes, moved its opening date back a week or two to either late August or early September.

At Popeyes, Carpenter said construction is wrapping up and hiring is underway. The best website for applications, he said, is Smitco Eateries’ own site: pleaseapplyonline.com/smitco.
“We do have some people hired,” he said. “We are still hiring dishwashers, cooks and parking lot people all the way up to general manager. We have a general manager for that site. There will be at least 80 people hired and they’ll be full-time and part-time.”
