Weekly Buzz: Chuck Fletcher Is Keeping The Flyers Busy – FanSided

This week’s serving of Broad Street Buzz content you might have missed.

The Philadelphia Flyers began the week announcing the start date and events for their 2019 Development Camp, where they had 41 prospects set to be in attendance.

General Manager Chuck Fletcher kept on taking care of offseason business, re-signing defenseman Travis Sanheim to a two-year contract and bringing back of his first Restricted Free Agent.

And he wasn’t done there. Fletcher traded Ryan Hartman to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Tyler Pitlick, who has one year left on his deal with a one million dollar Average Annual Value.

The 2019 NHL Entry Draft has come and gone, and we graded Fletcher’s first draft as GM of the Orange and Black.

The Flyers had a need for a backup goaltender, and James Reimer was an intriguing option to fill that role, whether it was through trade or waiting to see if he would eventually get bought out by the Florida Panthers.

Not even 30 minutes after we posted that article, Philadelphia announced that they brought back goalie Brian Elliott on a one-year contract worth two million dollars, banking on his ability to stay healthy for the 2019-20 season and backup Carter Hart.

Philadelphia has one more hole to fill on their roster at the third line right wing, and there are a couple of prospects who could earn that position with great performances at training camp and during the preseason.

The addition of Pitlick was more to help the Flyers save a little of salary cap space, but he could prove to be a solid fourth liner in Philadelphia if Head Coach Alain Vigneault uses him correctly.

If Fletcher decides to go the Free Agency route in terms of filling the 3rd line RW role, here are some potentially cheaper free agent options he could sign.
