Is it too late to say sorry?
Justin Bieber apologized on Sunday for any bad blood between him and Taylor Swift before launching into a full-throated defense of his manager Scooter Braun — who was blasted by the pop princess earlier for acquiring the rights to her old music.
In her Tumblr tirade, Swift, 29, had referenced a 2016 Instagram post by Bieber as evidence of Braun “bullying me on social media when I was at my lowest point.”
“He’s about to own all the music I’ve ever made,” Swift wrote.
In response, Bieber said he “would like to apologize for posting that hurtful instagram post, at the time i thought it was funny but looking back it was distasteful and insensitive…”
But the “Sorry” singer maintained that his manager had nothing to do with the post and tried to stop it from going up.
“Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you.!” Bieber claimed.
Bieber said he didn’t think it was “fair” for Swift to take to social media to unload on Braun, who obtained the rights to her master recordings when he purchased Swift’s former label, Big Machine Label Group, in a $300 million deal.
“What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog? seems to me like it was to get sympathy u also knew that in posting that your fans would go and bully scooter,” Bieber wrote, adding that he and Braun “love” Swift and would love to talk to “resolve any conflict.”
“Neither scooter or i have anything negative to say about you we truly want the best for you,” Bieber wrote. “I usually don’t rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone i loves character thats crossing a line..”
Braun’s wife, Yael Cohen Braun, also lashed out at Swift for accusing her husband of being a bully.
“Girl, who are you to talk about bullying?” she wrote. “The world has watched you collect and drop friends like wilted flowers. My husband is anything but a bully, he’s spent his life standing up for people and causes he believes in.”
Cohen claimed Swift had the opportunity to own the rights to her old tunes and “passed.”
She also said Swift lied when she wrote that she’d found out about the sale of her records when the news of the bombshell deal broke on Sunday.
“Your dad is a shareholder and was notified and [Big Machine Label group founder Scott] Borchetta personally told you before this came out. So no, you didn’t find out with the world,” Cohen wrote on Instagram.
Swift’s rep denied to People that the singer’s dad, Scott Swift, is on the Big Machine board.
“Taylor found out from the news articles when she woke up before seeing any text from Scott Borchetta and he did not call her in advance,” the rep said.
