Don’t talk to Nancy Meyers about her films’ gorgeous kitchens.
The famed director of hit movies such as “It’s Complicated,” “The Holiday” and “Something’s Gotta Give” spoke out about her fans’ obsession with her iconic set designs, saying during a conversation with Mindy Kaling that it’s sexist to focus so much on interior design.
“I don’t love when a critic or journalist will pick up on that aspect, because they are missing the boat and they are missing why [the movie] works,” Meyers said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “It is a cheap shot. It’s never done to male directors who make gorgeous-looking movies, where the leads live in a great house. It’s never brought up.
“With me, it’s an easy thing to go after, but I am not going to change it.”
Meyers, 69, also admitted that she’s taking a break from Hollywood. The last movie Meyers penned was 2015’s “The Intern” starring Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro.
“I am taking a break,” she said. “The business has changed in a way that is somewhat unrecognizable to me. I am not sure how much I want to do it.”
