I'm A Celebrity 2018 line up: Sue Perkins denies casting rumours before slamming show
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has not yet revealed who will be going into the jungle this year.
Despite this, many celebrities have been tipped to join the ITV show ahead of its premiere, but former Great British Bake Off star Sue Perkins has explained how she feels about it.
Speaking on Smooth Radio, Sue explained that she feels the show is a little cruel towards animals.
She began speaking about the show by joking joking about the eating challenges: “There’s nothing about I’m A Celebrity that scares me. The kangaroo’s nipple, yeah I’ve had worse – I really have.”
She went on to add that she enjoys seeing the “I think Ant [McPartlin] and Dec [Donnelly] are just marvellous and I just love them.”
However Sue continued discussing the show to admit: “I just don’t like the way the animals – I just don’t like it.
“If I was in a glass coffin with a load of spiders the only thing I would think about is: have I squashed a spider?
“And I just, I don’t really like watching it for that reason, you know?”
However she went on to add: “And I know that sounds a bit hokey but I kind of love animals too much to have them poured all over me!”
Sue even went on to justify her decision after revealing she had been approached for the show before.
She continued: “I think they did ask once, in the early days. But yeah, it’s a great show to watch, but not for me.
“The older I get, as well, you have to really justify leaving home.
“You really want a good excuse to go away and be apart from the people you really love.”
Sue added that leaving her loved ones to “rehabilitate elephants, climb a mountain, or to meet the Dalai Lama” would be good excuses – but I’m A Celebrity wouldn’t quite hold the same weight.
Continuing, she said: “I think those are good excuses. But to say: ‘You know what? I really love you, but I’m not here for seven weeks because I want to have my pants filled with crickets’ – I’m not sure that tests as well.”
Meanwhile rumours have been surrounding Coleen Nolan’s involvement with the show.
Despite the news that she may be joining the competition, she posted on her Twitter to definitively set the record straight.
She wrote: “Hello tweeties – we can confirm that our Coleen is definitely NOT going into the #imacelebrity jungle this year.
“She’s looking forward to watching it from the safety of her sofa tho #DontBelieveTheRumours.”
I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! returns to ITV on November 18.
