The Predator's new trailer recalls classic '80s action movies
The new trailer for Shane Black’s The Predator has all the markings of a cheesy, traditional action movie, including this exquisite line: “Come and get us, motherfucker.”
The trailer almost feels anachronistic. It certainly looks like a 2018 movie technologically, but the dialogue seems ripped right out of the 1980s, arguably one of the best periods for the modern action movie. That vibe works most of the time, but there are a few eye-roll inducing scenes, including a joke delivered early on by actor and comedian Keegan-Michael Key.
Black’s The Predator is a reinvention of the original 1987 movie, and will focus on a group of smarter, genetically-enhanced versions of the monstrous, iconic aliens.
Fox’s full synopsis of the film can be read below.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The Predator will be released on Sept. 14.
