Recap of some recent closures, an opening and one familiar name coming back.
Closed/Returning
Samira’s Mediterranean Cuisine’s permanent closure has been confirmed. As first reported June 5 in The Buzz, the restaurant at 3402 N. Richmond St. in Appleton has been dark for weeks.
“They were asked to leave because they violated a clause in their lease,” said landlord Bob Spahn. “It’s considered abandonment if they’re closed more than 15 days.”
The good news, Spahn said, is that Taste of the Windy City will be reincarnated in its original form in that spot. Taste of the Windy City had been there from 2007 to 2017.
Hatem Ayari, who has owned Taste of the Windy City in Little Chute for seven years, is signing a lease to reopen the Richmond Street location. He continues to operate in Little Chute as well. The shops offer gyros, Italian beef and Chicago-style sandwiches. He hopes to open the Appleton location in July.

Happy Trails is a new alternative health store selling CBD products at 140 E. Second St. in Kaukauna. CBD is cannabidiol, a legal, non-euphoric component of the cannabis plant used therapeutically in humans and pets. Jason and Kayla Tokarczyk, the shop’s husband and wife owners, are Kaukauna residents originally from Bonduel and Black Creek. “My husband and I discovered CBD three years ago in Colorado, and it had tremendous benefits for his psoriasis,” said Kayla. “We’re just the third shop in Wisconsin to sell products that contain CBD.” Products include oils, edibles, topicals and capsules. Limitless Boot Camp closed at 1000 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton, in the Bell Heights strip mall. The business had opened earlier this year and offered exercise classes. Owner Mary Peters did not respond to a voice mail asking for information.

The Local Neighborhood Grill closed at the end of May at 213 S. Nicolet Road in Grand Chute. The restaurant’s operator, Lamon Robinson, said he closed the business for multiple reasons. “I didn’t have enough staff. It was hard to keep staff,” he said. “The location wasn’t right. I didn’t have enough customers.”
Rocket Subs & More, which was on the west side of Local Neighborhood Grill, closed several months ago.
