In an effort to compete with off-price stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, Macy’s in the Fox River Mall will create a Backstage location on its second floor.
Backstage is like an outlet store within the department store.
Macy’s submitted remodeling plans to the town of Grand Chute.
It shows Backstage will take 2,200 square feet of space as it reconfigures its upstairs women’s clothing departments. Construction has not yet started.
“It is tentatively scheduled to open this fall. We’re still a little ways away so I don’t have too much more information to share,” said Macy’s spokeswoman Carolyn Ng.
The Backstage area will carry discounted new apparel and accessories for men, women and children plus housewares, home textiles, décor, cosmetics, jewelry, gifts, shoes and handbags. Brands will be both known and some that will be new to the Macy’s store.
Macy’s has been unrolling Backstage locations inside its stores across the country since it first tested the idea in 2015.
In its first quarter 2018 report, the retailer said it will open 40 more Backstage stores inside Macy’s locations in the fiscal second quarter and about 100 in total this year.
