Singer Dave Grohl also talked about the time Taylor Swift came to his aid at a Paul McCartney party.
James Corden wrapped the Late Late Show’s weeklong stint in London on Thursday night (June 22) with a bang. A big bang. A Foo Fighters-shaped bang.
The Foos were in town for the Kerrang Awards, where they won for best International Live Act and Best International Band. And they continued their winning ways on Corden’s late night show, where they performed an appropriately blistering “Best of You.”
There might have been an uncomfortable moment, were it not for the British host and the U.S. rockers hugging it out. Remember the Foos’ “Carpool Karaoke” session? If not, you surely remember the fallout? Dave Grohl and Co. were apparently less than impressed with the original segment, telling reporters it was “uncomfortable” and suggesting it dragged on and some choice moments were cut out. Those comments didn’t go unnoticed and Grohl revealed this week that Corden sent him a sweary text message.
“I had to text him back and was like, ‘No dude, that’s not what we meant,” Grohl told The Sun. “What we were trying to say was it was uncomfortable to sit in a car and try to sing our own songs. If we were singing Queen songs or Led Zeppelin songs or Beatles songs, it would have been fine…but to sit there and sing your own songs…we felt weird about it.”
It was all love on the couch, though, as Grohl and Corden re-lived their boyhood Beatles crushes following Sir Paul McCartney’s epic 20-minute plus “Carpool Karaoke” segment and Grohl told a hilarious story about the time he tried to leave a McCartney house party early and Taylor Swift bailed him out. Worried about his early morning dad bus stop duties the following day, Grohl had planned his escape around 10:30, but after Sir Paul’s impromptu jam session everyone looked to Dave to do his bit.
“I can’t play piano and I was a little out of sorts at that point and all the guitars are left handed,” he recalled. “And right at that moment Taylor Swift stands up and she goes, ‘I’ll do a song!’… so she saved my ass.” Watch the video below to find out which song she played.
