XXXTentacion Shot Dead in Miami, Rapper Was 20
Rapper Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, known professionally as XXXTentacion, was shot today in Miami.
According to a report from TMZ, the 20-year-old was shopping for motorcycles, and as he left the dealership with his entourage, a gunman approached the car and opened fire.
It is not known how many bullets struck Onfroy.
Tragically, early reports about the rapper’s condition are not promising.
Sources say he had no pulse on the scene, and his body appeared “lifeless” as he was loaded into an ambulance.
There have been no further updates since Onfroy arrived at an area hospital.
TMZ has obtained video from the incident that shows an unconscious body in the front seat of a sports car.
Be warned that the content in the clip below is rather graphic.
Arriving on the hip-hop scene last year with his debut album, 17, XXXTentacion has been a divisive figure from the start.
Onfroy quickly amassed a large and devoted fan base, with multiple singles from his second album making their way into the Billboard 200.
But just as rapidly as his career began, it was derailed by a string of scandals.
Onfroy began rapping professionally not long after being released from a youth detention center, where he was locked up on weapons possessions charges.
Additional legal issues and violent incidents followed soon after.
Onfroy has been accused of assaulting fans at his concerts on more than one occasion.
His feuds with fellow artists such as Drake and Migos resulted in threats of violence, including one incident in which Onfroy claims one of the Migos emcees pointed a gun at him.
But the most egregious alleged incident — and the one that got Onfroy’s music banned from streaming services such as Spotify — occurred in October of 2016, when he was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend while she was pregnant with his child.
The alleged incident took place just months after Onfroy was accused of breaking into a man’s home, pistol whipping, and several thousand dollars worth of electronics.
Onfroy is still awaiting trial on charges from both incidents.
At the time of today’s shooting, he was on house arrest, but had obtained permission from the court to leave his home for professional reasons.
Onfroy was not known to be involved in any violent disputes in the weeks leading up to today’s shooting, but needless to say, he’s made quite a few enemies over the years.
We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
