Reader question: I have a $100 gift card for Shade Today. What can I do with it?
Answer: Shade Today Nursery & Landscaping at 1401 W. Evergreen Drive in Appleton went into receivership, which is an alternative to bankruptcy in which the business’ assets are sold to pay creditors.

Its live plant inventory was auctioned last Thursday.
“It was sold as one lot, pending court approval,” said Jamie Rose, paralegal for Rebecca DeMarb, the Madison-based receiver. Rose said Shade Today’s equipment will be sold at a future auction.
If your gift card was purchased using a credit card, you can try calling the credit card company to dispute the charge.
Another option is to file a proof of claim form with the court and hope to get your money back. There’s no guarantee. Get the form mailed to you by calling DeMarb’s office at 608-310-5500 or by calling local consultant Mike Fabich at 920-246-2724. Your proof of claim form must be received by the court by Aug. 9.
A third possibility: if other landscaping businesses in the area volunteer to redeem Shade Today gift cards in whole or in part, and they contact me, I’ll run the information in a future column.
