Cleveland Orchestra announces titles in 2018-19 'At the Movies' series
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Rejoice, cinema lovers. The Cleveland Orchestra plans another year of “At the Movies.”
This week, the orchestra announced the details of its 2018-19 film series. Over the course of next season, the group will present three films live in concert at Severance Hall, with the soundtracks performed by the orchestra or a guest soloist.
First up, just in time for Halloween, is Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog.” On Friday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m., organist Todd Wilson will improvise accompaniment on the hall’s Norton Memorial Organ to the silent 1930 thriller about a serial killer.
Next comes the Severance Hall debut of actor James Dean. On Friday, March 1, at 8 p.m., Scott Dunn conducts the orchestra in “Rebel Without a Cause,” featuring a score by Leonard Rosenman.
Last but far from least: “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” On Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m., assistant conductor Vinay Parameswaran presides over a performance of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi classic, one featuring both the orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.
Subscription packages, $78-$237, are available now. Individual tickets, $34-$101, go on sale mid-August. All performances take place at Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. For information, go to clevelandorchestra.com or call 216-231-1111.
